Meet the Team

Hello!

Meet the team at The Hearing Place and discover why we love what we do!

Sam Kyei-Yamoah - Hearing care assistant

Sam Kyei-Yamoah

Hearing Care Assistant

“I’ve worked in health care environments for the past 10 years and thrive on providing personalised care to my clients. I’m very client-centred in my approach and do all I can to make sure the patient’s needs and desires are met.
I love the immediate gratification that wax removal provides. By the end of an appointment, clients feel much better and their hearing is usually improved.

When you make an appointment for wax removal, it could be either Helen or I that sees you. We are both fully trained in all methods of wax removal. If you require a full diagnostic hearing assessment, it will be Jess who conducts this appointment and any hearing aid fittings. I undertake some of the routine aftercare appointments to ensure your hearing aids stay in tip-top condition!

When not at work I spend time reading motivational books, running and listening to a wide array of music.
I promise not to sing during appointments once wax removal has been completed!”

Jess Kyei-Yamoah - Audiologist

Jess Kyei-Yamoah

Audiologist

“Since qualifying over 19 years ago, I started my career working for high street hearing care providers. Throughout my career, I was promoted to undertake additional roles including in-field trainer, clinical auditor, and clinical supervisor for new students.

In 2020, COVID made me re-evaluate my career, and I decided to take the plunge and set up my own, independent hearing care business with my husband, Sam. We have never looked back, it was the best decision we ever made!

My patients are at the heart of everything I do. I am at my best when helping people to hear better. I genuinely love nothing more than the satisfaction of learning how much better people have been hearing since I’ve fitted their new hearing aids. There’s still that ‘goose pimple’ moment when I hear clients raving about the improvements.

In my downtime I enjoy walking my miniature dachshund Simba, and cuddling my hairless cat Norman. I love spending time with our two daughters, friends and family and eating out.”

Helen Overton

Hearing Care Assistant

“I spent the first seven years of my hearing care career working for a leading high street hearing company. Since qualifying, wax removal was all I wanted to do and I can honestly say that I thoroughly enjoy it. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but it’s definitely mine!

Since joining The Hearing Place over 4 years ago, my passion remains in ear wax removal. I have mastered the skill required and work to an exceptionally high standard. It is so satisfying having the ability to unblock people’s ears and give them back their hearing. Clients have described having their hearing improved as ‘a gift’ and it truly makes my day.

In my free time I enjoy spending time with my family, especially my granddaughters. I have started collecting orchids, I have a few different varieties but I’m always on the lookout for the more unusual types. If I have any more free time, watching true crime is another favourite.”

Claire Whitby - Audiologist

Audiologist

“Drawing on a foundation of care established during my previous life as a social worker, after leaving to have children I was looking for a change of career when I was offered a position as a hearing care assistant. After a few months I was hooked and then was given the opportunity to progress and qualify as an audiologist in 2023.

My background in social work instilled in me a deep understanding of individual needs and a commitment to person-centred care, principles that are central to my approach as an audiologist. I am driven by the opportunity to make a tangible difference in people’s lives by improving their hearing and communication.

Outside of my professional life, I love spending quality time with my family, immersing myself in a good book, and am currently trying to take up running again (we shall see!).”

Caroline Campbell

Client Services Coordinator

“Over the last 20 + years I have worked for a couple of High Street Opticians and worked in most roles from customer service to management to lab technician. I left the world of optics and entered the world of cars (a passion of mine). My time there then came to an end when Covid hit. This lead me to The Hearing Place. I jumped at the chance to work for Jess and Sam and have never looked back.

I have worked for The Hearing Place for 2 and half years and love it (apart from when they make me have my photograph taken)! I am normally the first person you speak to when you call, and the one most likely to reply when you email us. I really enjoy talking to all different types of people. I always try and find the best solution for your needs, and I will always help wherever I can.

When I’m not working, I really enjoy spending time with my family. I have a husband, 2 children (1 grown up) 1 grandson and 4 cats. We love taking trips to the seaside and going out for family meals (the cats do stay at home)!”

Mya Kyei-Yamoah

Receptionist

“I am currently studying Biology, Psychology and Enterprise & Entrepreneurship A-levels. After sixth form I intend to go on to study audiology at university and my long-term goal is to take over the business when my parents retire!

At The Hearing Place you will find me working on reception at our Haxby clinic every other Saturday. I am also responsible for creating and scheduling a lot of the social media posts you will see on our Instagram page. I know first-hand the impact hearing loss can have on people’s lives because I wear hearing aids myself.

When I am not at work, school or doing my coursework, I enjoy listening to music and spending time with my friends.”

Beki Warriner - virtual assistant

“I help The Hearing Place out with various admin tasks, such as preparing newsletters and doing projects as required.

I enjoy spending time with my family and going out on long walks with my cocker spaniel, especially in the Lake District.”
